Koh Kho Khao (neck island) is a quite desolate place to go if you want to really get away from it all. A drive of just a few kilometers north of Bangsak beach, will bring you to a small car ferry ride near the village of Baan Nam Khem, just south of Takuapa.
The ferry ride is about 10 minutes across from the mainland although depending on when you get to the small ferry terminal your wait could be up to an hour. The ferry crossings are based on the amount of traffic and they like to wait until at least a few cars are on board to make the trip worthwhile. Depending on the season (high or low) and the associated traffic would determine your wait time.
Pedestrians can also use longtail boats to get across although there is only room for sitting or you can bring a pedal bike or motorcycle.
Ko Kho Khao is a fairly large island composed of mostly flat, grassy sand flats towards its center and a sprawling area of mangroves and canals to the east. A number of beautiful beaches line the western and northern coasts with very nice scenery.
The paved main road that runs up the western side of the island the northern part of the island is in very good shape although any of the small roads branching off are a little on the rough side. There are a few resorts although most of them are only open 6 months of the year. Due to the nature of the island being hard to access in the sense that tourists have to take a ferry to get to it means that when it is low season there is very little traffic going to the island. Therefore it is just too costly for the large resorts to stay open in the low season.
Ko Kho Khao is a get away beach atmosphere which consists of not much more then that except eating and drinking. Of course there is dipping in the ocean which is quite nice a beautiful sunsets that are a front page view on the eastern side of the island.
