South beach is the only one on the south side of Khao Lak Mountain which is where the original village of Khao Lak. The main tourist area has since expanded over to the other side of the mountain although the original “Southern” town is still nice to visit.
South Beach is the shortest of Khao Lak’s‚ beaches although it is the one with the most tropical atmosphere, located in the middle of large granite rocks, tall shady casuarina trees and other huge tropical flora and fauna. South beach is quiet with not too many tourists and you can view in here:
Khao Lak Beach starts just after Lamru National park headquarters and is actually made up of three beaches. These three are Sunset Beach, Nang Thong and Bang Niang Beach all in that order.
Nang Thong was always first and foremost as the main beach as it runs parallel to the town center of Khao Lak. The gentle slop of the beach into the ocean makes it an ideal place for enjoyment and the abundance of sea shells and interesting rocks make it a good spot for beach combing. This area is also good for snorkeling because of the rock outcrops.
